Six ICC Members will be hoping to move closer to qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 when they take part in the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 in Windhoek, Namibia, between 24 November – 1 December.
Among the favourites for qualification will be hosts Namibia, UAE, Denmark and Oman, all of whom came within one step of qualifying for the last World Cup.
Uganda and Argentina secured their places at the event after outstanding performances in the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 event in Darwin, Australia earlier this year.
The top four teams from the event in Namibia will automatically qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2009 in the UAE, while the remaining two teams will have a second chance to qualify for that event at the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 in early 2009.
The ICC World Cricket League provides a clearly defined pathway to progress and develop, from the leading Associate countries through to some of cricket’s smallest Affiliate nations.
It is a five-division structure designed to afford teams of various standards the opportunity to play regular one-day cricket against similarly ranked opponents regardless of where in the world they are located.
Kenya won the inaugural ICC World Cricket League Division 1 event in February 2007 when it defeated Scotland in the final by eight wickets.
