Under19 CWC

The ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup is the leading development tournament for international cricket's stars of the future and takes place every two years.

The previous winners of the event so far have been Australia (1988 and 2002), England (1998), India (2000 and 2008) and Pakistan (2004 and 2006).

In the 2008 event held in Malaysia, India produced a remarkable performance in a rain-interrupted final to beat South Africa by 12 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method for their second ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup triumph at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

The Indians owed much of their victory to the batting of Tanmay Srivastava whose 46 runs proved to be a vital contribution to a disappointing 159 in 45 overs. In reply, a masterfully economical bowling effort from openers Pradeep Sangwan (0-14) and Ajitesh Argal (2-7) and strong support from spinners Ravindra Jadega (2-25), Siddharth Kaul (2-26) and Sayyed Abdullah Iqbal (1-26) enabled India to claim victory.

Set a target of 160 runs in 50 overs that was later revised to 116 in 25 overs due to a two-hour rain stoppage, South Africa could only post 103 at the end of the 25th over and the Indians celebrated, joined by equally excited fans.

The next sixteen team event will take place in Kenya in February 2010.
