Since its inception in October 1997 the ICC Development Program has grown from strength to strength. In Africa, the game has undoubtedly taken root and has spread rapidly in 10 years.
In some countries the growth has been minimal but in most countries such as Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Namibia, Uganda, Nigeria, Botswana and Mozambique the development programme has made huge strides.
During the first two years the emphasis was on grass roots development and awareness with specific emphasis on mini cricket introduction and training of coaches. Other key areas of the regional development work include coach and umpire education, provision of equipment, facilities, resources and promotional materials, elite player programs and tournaments on both a local and regional basis.
Africa has reached the stage where traditional equipment and proper facilities has become a priority as has the need for effective administration and playing structures.
